Generalized Anxiety Disorder (GAD) is an anxiety disorder characterized by excessive anxiety and worry about several events and activities in a person’s life. The affected person has difficulty controlling the worry and becomes restless, fatigued, irritable, has difficulty concentrating, experiences muscle tension, or has difficulty falling or staying asleep as a result of the anxiety. People with GAD can become so overwhelmed by anxiety and worry that they have difficulty functioning in their personal or work life. They often fear that the worse case scenario will happen, that harm will come to them or to a loved one, and often worry about negative life consequences to the point of obsession.
