Agoraphobia

Agoraphobia is an anxiety disorder where the affected person struggles with fears related to being in public or open places, public transportation, enclosed places, being in crowds, and/or being outside of their home environment. If individuals with Agoraphobia find themselves in these situations, they either must be accompanied by another person or often will endure the circumstance while experiencing severe anxiety or fear that is often excessive or out of proportion given the situation. The circumstances that cause the anxiety are not necessarily dangerous or threatening, but the person with Agoraphobia perceives the circumstances in this manner. Agoraphobia can be severely disabling, but with intensive mental health treatment, people can achieve recovery from symptoms.
