Autism

Autism, also known as Autism Spectrum Disorder, is a developmental disorder typically diagnosed in childhood. People with Autism show deficits in social skills, communication, and nonverbal behaviors. They typically struggle with behaviors used for communication with others such as demonstrating poor eye contact, unusual body language or use of gestures, or showing a flat or emotionless facial expression. These individuals often struggle with making friends due to their developmental delays. Their interests are often very restricted and repetitive, as they will make repetitive physical movements or repeat words and phrases that are out of context and often struggle with doing activities that are outside of their routine and comfort level. Individuals with Autism can become very sensitive to sounds, textures, pain, or touch. Some people with Autism can be high functioning and learn to care for themselves while other cases can be more severe, requiring frequent or constant supervision by a caretaker.
