Panic Disorder

Panic Disorder is an anxiety disorder whereby the affected person experiences frequent or recurrent panic attacks. A panic attack is an episode of intense and sudden symptoms that lasts approximately 10 minutes. During a panic attack, the person experiences rapid heart rate, sweating, shaking, difficulty breathing, feeling as if they are choking, chest pain, nausea or upset stomach, dizziness or feeling faint, chills or hot flashes, numbness or tingling in their body, feelings of being detached from themselves or their own body, fear of losing control, or believing they are dying. People with Panic Disorder are often afraid of having a panic attack and engage in avoidance of panic attack triggers to prevent the onset of a panic attack.
