Sexual Addiction

Sexual addiction involves compulsive thoughts about sexual actions or behaviors and/or a chronic pattern of engaging in sex with others that is harmful or damaging to the affected person and/or others. Sexual addiction often stems from problems with intimacy, but becomes severe and problematic like any addiction, significantly interfering with the person’s ability to function and lead a healthy and normal life. In some cases, sexual addiction can lead to criminal sexual offending causing the person to have legal problems. Severe cases of sexual addiction require that the person remain incarcerated in order to stop the individual from engaging in criminal actions. However, not all sexual addicts engage in criminal sex offending. Many can recover from their addiction with treatment, which is delivered in a similar method as with drug, gambling, or other addictions.
