Some of our Major Services

Play Therapy

Play Therapy is a treatment approach for children where a qualified mental health therapist engages in interventions that allow the child to express themselves through play activities. Children engage in play as their primary activity on a daily basis; therefore, using play in treatment for childhood mental health disorders is often an effective method since children can lack the verbal and processing abilities to be able to express their feelings in words. Through various play activities, the child can learn to understand and accept their own feelings and the actions and feelings of others. Play therapy can also allow the child to express feelings and emotions that they avoid or do not wish to openly talk about. Through play activities, such as using a sand tray, miniature human figures/dolls, or other toys, the child and therapist can interact, allowing the child to experience life events or emotions through the play activity and within the safety and support of the therapeutic setting. Play therapy can help children with a variety of emotional concerns from behavioral problems, depression, anxiety, or trauma.

Gender Dysphoria.

Gender dysphoria is a mental health disorder where the person experiences a conflict between their assigned gender, or the gender they were born with, and their gender identity, or their experienced gender. Gender dysphoria can occur in childhood, adolescence, or adulthood and often involves the person wanting to get rid of their sexual characteristics due to this conflict and due to their desire to find congruence with the gender they feel they are.

Marriage Counseling

Couples counseling, also known as marital therapy or relationship therapy, is a specialized type of therapy that targets marital couples or couples in romantic relationships. Couples counseling often follows many of the theories and interventions of family therapy models, helping couples problem-solve, improve communication, and target other areas of concern that lead to dissatisfaction and discord in the relationship. A couples or marital therapist who is trained in these types of interventions guides the couple in identifying their needs and presenting concerns and then helps the couple to develop a greater understanding of one another and of areas of deficit in the relationship. Many couples seek couples therapy in order to improve one or more areas of concern or if there are more advanced or serious issues in the relationship, such as one or both partners considering separation or divorce.

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)

CBT (or Cognitive Behavioral Therapy) is a therapeutic treatment approach that is based on the principles of cognitive behavioral theory. The theory teaches that thoughts influence the way people feel and behave so if a person has negative thoughts they will tend to have negative beliefs about themselves, others (or the world around them), and about their future. The trouble with having a negative belief system is that people can begin to develop problems such as depression, anxiety, or low self-esteem because they expect negative outcomes and feel unable to do anything to control these negative outcomes from happening to them. CBT teaches people that if they identify their own negative thoughts and beliefs and learn to replace them with more positive alternative thoughts, they will not only be able to manage outcomes in their life better, but they will tend to feel better overall. CBT can be self-taught, but is best delivered through therapy or counseling sessions with a mental health professional.

Sexuality and Gender Issues

Sexuality and gender issues are a specific topic area in mental health associated with disorders related to sexual problems and Gender Dysphoria. Individuals struggling with these concerns require treatment by a qualified mental health professional who specializes in treating individuals with these presenting problems. Treatment often involves supportive counseling along with behavioral and cognitive behavioral interventions. Individuals with sexuality and gender issues may struggle with other symptoms that can develop as a result of their disorder, such as depression, anxiety symptoms, and low self-esteem. Sexuality and gender issues, like other mental health disorders, are highly stigmatized; however, this population specifically struggles with much discrimination, leading to these individuals requiring intensive treatment.

Pre-Marital Counseling

Premarital Counseling is a unique branch of couples counseling that provides strategies, skills, and interventions for couples prior to getting married. The engaged couple meets with a couple’s counselor to discuss any areas of disagreement or dissatisfaction in the relationship so that the couple can work through these issues with the guidance and help from the therapist who specializes in treating couples. Premarital counseling is believed to serve as a valuable method to prevent marital problems in the future or even separation or divorce. Among certain religions, premarital counseling is required prior to the date of marriage if the couple decides to be married within particular religious denominations.

I am a physician and this is my first place to refer my patients to. They are very professional and have a great approach to resolving issues. I would have to say in twenty plus years of practice, Dr. Leza (Reza) Kazemi-mohammadi is the best therapist I have come across. I highly recommend this place.

I would like to brag on Ms.Victoria Sam-Kpakra. Thanks to her support over the last two years, I have made significant progress. I have learned a lot about myself through my sessions with her. I would highly recommend her. The receptionist’s office is also wonderful and accommodating.

My son is going here for few months. Receptionists are so kind and always welcoming. I like my psychologist Durga. It’s my first session, but I feel like I’m in right hands. I would recommend to friends and family.
